# How to search

Finding insights about your product areas is as simple as searching for them.

Using search, you can take a collection of keywords and identify a problem area or opportunity in your product within minutes.

## 🔎 Make a search

There are two key components to a search: 1) keywords and 2) filters

## 💬 Keywords

1. On the `Explore` tab in Sauce, look for the search bar in the top.
2. Type in keywords related to your search. Sauce will use these keywords to surface related [Trends](https://support.sauce.app/fundamentals/understanding-trends) and [Highlights](https://support.sauce.app/fundamentals/understanding-highlights).
3. To narrow down your search, add more keywords and phrases. Or to keep things broad, just start with a couple keywords.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Keep relevant phrases together rather than splitting them out into keywords. For example, the phrase “Inviting users” will give you better results that searching for “inviting” and “users” as separate keywords.
{% endhint %}

### **Refine your keywords**

Need to refine your results? Open the keyword menu by clicking the overlapping circles.

* **Need to fine tune?** To tailor the sensitivity of keywords, click on the overlapping circles next to a keyword. Drag the slider to make your results more specific to this keyword.
* **Looking for something specific?** Find exact matches by clicking on the overlapping next to a keyword or phrase and selecting ‘Specifically mentions’. This will only show results that specifically mention that keyword or phrase.
* **Need to exclude some results?** If you find that your search results have too much noise or unrelated results, you can explicitly exclude results. Type the keyword or phrase to exclude, click the overlapping circles and select “Exclude if similar to” or “Exclude if mentions”.

**Tip:** Search doesn’t work with questions (yet!) so you’ll need to enter keywords and phrases.
{% endhint %}

## 🔦 Filter

You might want to filter your results based on attributes about the feedback. For example, when the feedback was received or how it was collected.

You can do this by adding filters to your search.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://3667243797-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fpm0JU36SpVnTviWb6W4x%2Fuploads%2FmNYHQSwTkFrUDxS9JOXC%2FScreenshot%202025-06-09%20at%2012.22.06%E2%80%AFpm.png?alt=media&#x26;token=85d9cfa0-5520-4dc7-bf02-89bc1d5ed6de" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### **Filter options**

<table><thead><tr><th width="208.70703125">Filter</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Time period</strong></td><td>This lets you filter by when the feedback was received. You can choose a recent time period or select a customer date range.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Highlight type</strong></td><td><p>There are four different types of <a href="understanding-highlights">Highlights</a>: Feature Request, Issue, Praise or Enquiry.</p><p></p><p>You can select which types of Highlights you want to see in your results.</p></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Source</strong></td><td><p>This is where the feedback came from - it can be from an integration like Slack or Zendesk, or a CSV import. </p><p></p><p>Learn more about <a href="../importing-feedback/overview">Sources</a>.</p></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Customer</strong></td><td>Use this filter to get really granular and look for feedback from a specific customer or customers.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Reporter</strong></td><td>Filter feedback based on who reported it.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Other feedback fields</strong></td><td><p>When you <a href="../importing-feedback/csv-upload">upload feedback</a>, you might choose to add other custom fields, for example ARR or deal size.</p><p></p><p>You can choose to filter by any of these custom fields</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

## 💾 Save a search

Like what you've found? You can save a search as a ‘View’ that you can come back to later.&#x20;

As Sauce ingests more feedback that relates to your search, it will show up in this view.

1. Click ‘Start tracking’ in the top right corner
2. Give your search a name
3. Choose a Space and folder to save it to
4. Click Save
